Aftermarket that works
By J. DAVIS
Our former pickup truck had the factory parking assist option. Our new truck did not. Once you get used to parking assist, it is something genuinely missed. My wife insisted that we find a back-up assist to install. Research led me to the Myron & Davis parking assist. A professional installer wrote a review stating he had install several of these with good results. The new truck only had plastic bumper covers on the center third (Chevy Silverado). Some reviews indicated that the sensors did not work well on metal, so I chose the option of installing only two sensors. I have to agree with the professional installer, these work great. The beeper becomes more frequent until there is a steady buzz within two feet of the object. This works for pedestrians and objects as well. With the mirrors and the two sensors, this is a winner. But we are still adding a back up camera for that extra bit of caution.Note: Be extra cautious on sensor locations because there are a lot of obstructions behind the plastic hindering the sensor depth and the steel bumper takes up a lot of real estate behind the plastic bumper cover. It can be done, but you don't want holes where they don't belong on a new vehicle. Take your time, check and check again. The kit has adequate wire lengths to do a full size extended cab truck using the provided extension cables. A smaller vehicle with a trunk installation would not need the extensions. I used the two inboard ports at the hub because the sensors were inboard. The visual indicator for the driver indicates side-to-side sensing. One other note: When the ignition is turned off, the back-up sensor sounds. That is because the back-up lights come on for a period of time as a vehicle safety feature on GM products. It is not a defect in the parking assist. They would not sound if no obstructions were within sensor range.Rating this as 5 stars because it is an easy install and it works. Now comes the longevity test.Update: After several months of use, this system is still working well. It senses people and objects. However, there are dead spots. The two inboard sensors are spaced at 32" apart, the only place that they would fit. The distance to the center is 16". When backing straight back to a boat trailer tongue, the sensors will not detect this. The same for a post, but they will detect a vehicle to the rear of the post, giving a false sense of confidence. So extreme care needs to be taken in these situations. Also noted is that the drill furnished with the kit makes a slightly larger hole than the sensor body. Even though care was taken to drill straight-on, the sensors have a quasi loose fit. Normally the sensors will stay in place, but occasionally will jar loose. Our last trip through the car wash was a facility that used large rotating brushed that dislodged a sensor. Though the sensor still works, the housing trim cap was destroyed. As a suggestion, a small amount of clear silicon to seat the sensor may do the trick

Have installed dozens of these
By Daniel Krebs
My shop has installed a bunch of these and they work very well. The display is very nice and secures to the dash with 3M tape.
