3Not something most consumers should try to buy directly
By Longhorn
I'm a do-it-yourselfer, and what I'm finding is that buying one of these to configure yourself is something you should do with the expectation of NO support from a dealer or locksmith. Everything I read said that I could save money by buying the key, and paying a locksmith to cut it and sync it to my ignition. What I found out was that no locksmith will cut the key, unless you buy it from them, and with regard to syncing it to your ignition, some will offer to do it, with no service warranty... In other words, they make you prepay as they don't trust your fob, and if they fail, they blame you and your fob... AND they charge you a lot more because you didn't buy it from them. In reality, the price they sell to do the whole service is LESS than buying the fob on Amazon, and getting them to do non-guaranteed work.So this is what I hope you can take away from this... If you only have zero or one fob, you are best off shopping prices with your local locksmiths and dealers that have the equipment to add a first or second fob. You cannot add a first or second fob without special computer equipment that only authorized dealers, locksmiths, and car thieves have.If you already have two working fobs, then you can indeed buy this one and install it yourself, however you may have a really hard time finding someone to cut the key. If you are skilled, you can probably cut the key yourself, assuming you have a key to use as a template. If you live someplace where you found a locksmith, dealer or car thief that is willing to do this for you for a reasonable price, then you should post a review telling where you got the work done. But I sat on the phone all day after receiving my fob, and the best I could do is find out that I made a miscalculation. The good news is that I planned to buy a third key as soon as I got the second one done, so that I would have the ability to loose one, and self-replace. So the one I purchased on Amazon will be the third one, rather than the second. This is no huge surprise, but I was hopeful after reading the reviews on one of the other fob listings. The truth is this fob costs more than a dealer fob, unless you already have two working ones, and can cut the key yourself. When a dealer quotes you the price of a fob, they are including installation labor that cannot be avoided unless you have the right equipment. So don't be fooled by the "low" price of this fob. This price is actually high.
