Only if you are serious about the quality of your sound reproduction, but if you are, these speakers will have you grinning like an idiot every single time you get in your car for the foreseeable future. A side benefit is that you can casually give audio-innocents a lift, mention not a word, then immerse them in the richest sound-field they'll ever experience. Yes, they'll notice. (I recommend you queue up Bob Dylan's "Man in the Long Black Coat," which starts with a startling impression of real crickets chirping inside the car, then a few high lonesome twangs, then the bass kicks in...)But first off: exactly how much money are we talking about? To install these and hear everything that they have to offer, here's what you NEED to do:You need an excellent head-unit, being fed a top-quality signal. That's the only good news here: Any decent $300+ head unit that can handle an iPod feeding it an Apple Lossless signal will provide a fairly decent signal. But don't even think about driving these speakers directly from the head unit. You need some serious resonance-damping and soundproofing done on your doors. If you imagine doing it yourself (I did, but then I'm Scottish) put a full eight hours and $200 aside, just for materials. Having professionals do it? 2.5 hours per door, plus the materials. But those are just the front doors, and then there's the floor, and the trunk, and the firewall, and the roof ...Oh yeah: and these are 3-ways, so unless you're awful skillful working with (say) fibreglass, you need a professional installation to do the extra driver. Good news is that you don't need tricked-out sail panels that point the tweeters towards the customers (and fairly scream "Steal Me!"): the dispersion on these tweeters is so very good that that's not necessary. You need seriously good amplification. I chose, and am delighted with, a Genesis Profile 4 amp from Britain, very conservatively rated at 50w/channel. That'll set you back another grand. And then you need a subwoofer, and an amp to drive that, too. I chose a matching Genesis subwoofer amp, again conservatively rated at 600w, and a 10" driver in a custom cabinet. If you don't mind (or even enjoy) being antisocial, your volume knob now completely obviates the above soundproofing advice. In other words, in order to even consider installing these speakers, start thinking six grand, but ten is more realistic, and twice that is well worth it.But then you have them! What do they sound like? Like a very precise version of heaven. For the last three years I'd been running really nice Focals that honestly sound wonderful. For the last month I've been running these Dynaudios, delighted to find that I get to discover my favourite music all over again. The music you're listening to was probably mixed using Dynaudio studio monitors, so why not listen to it on the same speakers?

By James
Dear Audio Car Enthusiasts:Years ago I installed a custom designed Dyaudio car sound system using their dome tweeters in the dash facing up, mid domes in the doors, 8" woofers in the rear deck, and 12" Dyaudio woofer behind the rear seat of an Oldsmobile Cutlass...a 1982. I used two Sony Amps and ran the woofers full range as they seemed to integrate better that way. The rear seat served as an "acoustic crossover" absorbing the mids and highs. The 12" woofers were acoustically isolated from the truck and also braced to a MDF board that was bolted to the car. I designed the crossovers using specs provided by Dyaudio using the finest capacitors, resisters, and air-core for midrange and tweeter and iron-core units for the 8" woofer passively. The sound was simply a new standard in audio reproduction. The car was literally a concert hall or disco on wheels. Bass was deep but not boomy and the system could handle peaks of power with ease. Dynaudio simply makes the finest drivers and auto sound systems currently available at any price. If you love high end car audio, you will be ecstatic about the sound of their drivers. The key is having a good enough ear to tune the system to your car. Their pre-wired kits are excellent in this regard and also their new drivers are designed to withstand the extremes of temps in the car audio environment. My Best, James.
